It's Time To Decriminalize and Legalize At the Federal Level

Bob Marley was known for his love of cannabis. For him it was all about individual freedoms and individual choices. In so long as the choices an individual makes hurts no one he or she should be unencumbered by a large overbearing federal government. Marley was right in his time and his sentiments remain right today. It is time for the big overbearing and over judgmental feds to decriminalize cannabis and make it legal for everyone over 21 to purchase and use as they see fit. And all folks languishing in prison for cannabis use or sale convictions should be set free and their records expunged.

Unfortunately President Biden seems to be walking back his support for decriminalization and federal legalization of weed. Also, two democratic senators are still stuck in the archaic muck of yesteryears embrace of Refer Madness and Demon Weed mentality. IE that a perfectly harmless herb is a gateway drug to harder and addictive drugs. That is patently false. We'll acknowledge that for those predisposed to an addictive personality cannabis might cause a psychological dependency and it s estimated to be in the same ballpark as those who are predisposed to alcoholism.  However last year there were 33,000 deaths in which alcohol played a part. Cannabis deaths, ZERO. Year after year, The feds ought to be able to figure it out. But maybe they're just too stupid to connect the dots.

One of my favorite Marley quotes is this... When you smoke marijuana it reveals you to yourself. When one uses weed for the right reasons it does have a way of opening you up to greater understanding. You begin to see yourself in ways you never considered when you are straight and going about the struggles of living. This is to say if you open yourself up to the truth cannabis can reveal you will change in ways you never thought possible.

Cannabis can be a real life changer and when one uses cannabis for the right reason it can and does improve  your overall quality of life. Simply put it help makes you a more understanding and less judgmental person. I speak with knowledge because I have experienced this first hand up close and personal.

Other added benefits for me are that cannabis controls my extreme insomnia, mild anxiety, GERD, and it helps with musculoskeletal discomfort (the result of arthritis and many years training in the gym). Cannabis actually is beneficial for treating a large number of human ailments. Doctors have known this going back years. But unfortunately our federal government had other ideas. To criminalize and incarcerate folks for its use. Especially folks of color. But that is a post for a different day.
