A Long Awaited POTENTIAL Correction To Our Immoral And Archaic Cannabis Prohibition At The Federal Level

Image
It's time for the President to get solidly behind these efforts! MjBizDaily -  Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer reportedly on Wednesday  will release a “discussion draft”  of a long-awaited marijuana reform bill. The measure is expected to: Remove the plant from the federal Controlled Substances Act. Impose a federal tax. Largely leave states in control of deciding how to approach legalization. Benefit individuals and communities affected by the war on drugs. Largely leave states in control of deciding how to approach legalization. The bill is being called the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act, according to Bloomberg News and other media outlets, but it’s unclear when the measure will actually be introduced and considered by lawmakers. It Is The Ethical Thing To Do

CANNABIS BUSINESS TIMES -    U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) has led a group of her colleagues to   submit a letter   to a Senate Appropriations subcommittee requesting that cannabis businesses gain access to Small Business Administration (SBA) loans. The  letter , dated June 22, is addressed to Sens. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government. Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Bernie Sanders (D-VT), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Cory Booker, (D-NJ), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Ed Markey (D-MA), Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Raphael Warnock (D-GA) cosigned the letter, which asks that businesses legally operating in states with regulated cannabis markets receive access to the 7(a) Loan Guarantee Program, Disaster Assistance Program, Microloan Program and 504/Certified Development Company Loan Program. Rosen and her colleagues ask the Senate Appropriations

Biden Continues His Anti Cannibis Bias

Image
“The rules are the rules and everybody knows what the rules were going in,” Biden said. “Whether they should remain the rules is a different issue, but the rules are the rules.” And in that simple straight forward statement President Biden clearly indicates he is perfectly happy with the archaic & punitive cannibis prohibition the federal government has pursued since Richard Nixon. Do not plan to see cannabis legalization at ther federal level during the Biden administration. It simply ain't gonna happen. The Culture Magazine 'sfull article,  Biden Speaks on Sha’Carri Richardson Suspension, Suggests Cannabis Rules Could Change, can be found BELOW the FOLD .

Rick Steves: Pot is now used by Mom and Dad. And Grandma's rubbing it on her elbows

Today's featured article is brought to you by CNN Opinion via NORML . Times they are a changing and it is a very good and wholesome advancement forward. The articles straight forward honesty and frankness is why it is posted here in full. On to the article. "It's time to recognize the civil liberty of mature American adults to enjoy smoking pot in their own homes and to do so without breaking the law," writes Rick Steves. CNN -   I 'm a hard-working, kid-raising, churchgoing, tax-paying American. And if I work hard all day and want to go home, smoke a joint and stare at my fireplace for three hours, that's my civil liberty. This is my basic, principled message on marijuana legalization, a cause I've promoted for many years. But my interest is grounded in something more: 50 years ago, President Richard Nixon declared war on drugs. And  his administration made sure to include marijuana as a public enemy , even listing it in  the "Schedule I" cat

145 Million Souls Now Have Access To Cannabis, and the March To Federal Legalization Continues

Image
From my inbox at the now silent Rational Nation USA weblog. We pass it on top you and hope stoners everywhere will support NORML in any way you can.  June 28, 2021 Friend, This week marks another critical mile-marker on the road to ending marijuana prohibition in the United States. By the end of this week, Connecticut, New Mexico, and Virginia will all have abolished criminal penalties for marijuana possession. That means that by week's end, 14.3 million more Americans will live in a jurisdiction where the adult use of marijuana is legal. In all, 145 million Americans -- or just shy of half of the US population -- now reside in reformed states. But we're just getting started.  Will you continue to stand with us? Over 50 years ago, when NORML was initially founded, the fight for legalization was a much lonelier one. At that time, only 13 percent of the public endorsed our efforts. Nonetheless, even in the face of such seemingly insurmountable odds, we knew that legalizing marij

Republicans Continue To Live In the Past and Embrace Antiquated Positions

Image
While some republican lawmakers are all in on alcohol consumption, a beverage causing alchoholism in millions and one that becomes a poisonous liquid when consumed in excess, they are chagrined at the idea of recreational cannabis. Of course it's all about control over the lives of others, absent a single rational justifiable reason. They simply choose to continue to believe the lies Harry Anslinger and others concotted about cannabis being a gateway drug (it isn't) as well as wanting to continue to use inhumane marijuana laws to incarcerate people of color in large numbers. Eventually they will fall. Progress always moves forward, not backwards. Irrespective of the desires of the few. On to the article. POLITICO   -  Marijuana’s popularity boom in red states isn’t breaking through with conservatives on Capitol Hill, pinching an already narrow path to federal legalization. A growing number of Republican senators represent states that have legalized recreational or medical can

Mexico's Lower House Approves Recreatinal Cannabis

Image
Mexico, that country just south of the United States ex president trump essentially called a third world shithole, just passed recreational cannabis in the lower house. It now moves to the Senate where passage is anticipated. Good news for the Mexican people and the Mexican economy.  On to the article. BBC - Mexico's lower house has approved a bill that would legalise the recreational use of cannabis. It will now go to the Senate for a final vote, which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's party is confident will pass. This would make Mexico one of the world's largest regulated markets for cannabis. Mexico has struggled with a bloody war against powerful drug cartels, with violence killing thousands yearly. Lawmakers voted in favour of the bill by 316 votes to 129. It had  already been approved in the Senate  in November but another vote is needed following some alterations by the lower house. The legislation would let users with a permit carry up to 28g and grow as m

Time To Ignore President Biden's Obviously Outmoded Objections To Federal Cannabis Legalization and Just Get It Done

Image
It is time for President Biden to educate himself on cannabis benefits, understand his egregiously outdated knowledge of cannabis, and his unjustified and immoral support for the 1994 crime bill that resulted in the explosion in the prison population for the non violent crime of smoking weed. An activity that hurt NO ONE.  If Biden refuses to pull his head out of the darkness then congress and the senate should force his hand. Get a law to decriminalize and legalize out of both houses and see what Bisen does. Hopefully he actually places his trust in the America people as he so often said he does. It is time to PROVE it. On to the article... Anyone surprised that Joe Biden would scrutinize the weed-smoking habits of his White House staff hasn't paid attention to one of the more consistent policy threads of his decades-long career. He’s just not ready to embrace cannabis. Despite a shift in public opinion toward legalizing marijuana over the past 30 years, the president’s more con
