145 Million Souls Now Have Access To Cannabis, and the March To Federal Legalization Continues

Image
From my inbox at the now silent Rational Nation USA weblog. We pass it on top you and hope stoners everywhere will support NORML in any way you can.  June 28, 2021 Friend, This week marks another critical mile-marker on the road to ending marijuana prohibition in the United States. By the end of this week, Connecticut, New Mexico, and Virginia will all have abolished criminal penalties for marijuana possession. That means that by week's end, 14.3 million more Americans will live in a jurisdiction where the adult use of marijuana is legal. In all, 145 million Americans -- or just shy of half of the US population -- now reside in reformed states. But we're just getting started.  Will you continue to stand with us? Over 50 years ago, when NORML was initially founded, the fight for legalization was a much lonelier one. At that time, only 13 percent of the public endorsed our efforts. Nonetheless, even in the face of such seemingly insurmountable odds, we knew that legalizing marij

Time To Destroy the Stigma

CANNABIS CULTURE AND PARENTING – THE STONER MOM CLN -  Let’s put it out that there is nothing wrong with relaxing by having a drink or however many. Parenting is hard and no one is calling healthy vices wrong. Whatever any person needs to do to take the edge off of long day being caregiver, is supported as self care from this author. This is not “ Wine   culture is wrong and   cannabis culture   is right.” This is also not a defence of addiction. The last few years it’s become a common Mom trope that “ Your the reason Mommy drinks. ” It’s a joke, a fun little reason to explain why you enjoy having a drink or two at night. Frankly, we all know parenting is hard work. Being the primary caregiver is a tough, stressful and demanding job. So why is there still a stigma about a parent smoking? Even in 2021 people still side eye any parent who admits they smoke  cannabis . While it’s perfectly fine for someone to have a glass of wine while cooking dinner or giving a child a bath. It’s not

New Mexico Legalizes Recreational Cannabis

Adding another state to the elite list of states with the good sense to legalize reacreational cannabis. As we await the monolistic federal government awakemning to the realities that cannabis is one of  Mother Earth's greatest gift to humankind. On to the article. SANTA FE, N.M. —  It’s legal for people in New Mexico to possess recreational marijuana and grow those plants at home as of Tuesday, the same day regulators opened discussions on rules for the launch of pot sales next year. The milestone was celebrated by cannabis consumers and advocates for criminal justice reform who say poor and minority communities have been prosecuted disproportionately for using marijuana. Now, the scent of marijuana no longer is an adequate cause for searching vehicles and property in New Mexico. Recreational marijuana is now legal in 16 states and Washington, D.C., with Connecticut and Virginia set to join the list Thursday. New Mexico joins a wave of states that have broadly legalized pot throug

Republicans Continue To Live In the Past and Embrace Antiquated Positions

Image
While some republican lawmakers are all in on alcohol consumption, a beverage causing alchoholism in millions and one that becomes a poisonous liquid when consumed in excess, they are chagrined at the idea of recreational cannabis. Of course it's all about control over the lives of others, absent a single rational justifiable reason. They simply choose to continue to believe the lies Harry Anslinger and others concotted about cannabis being a gateway drug (it isn't) as well as wanting to continue to use inhumane marijuana laws to incarcerate people of color in large numbers. Eventually they will fall. Progress always moves forward, not backwards. Irrespective of the desires of the few. On to the article. POLITICO   -  Marijuana’s popularity boom in red states isn’t breaking through with conservatives on Capitol Hill, pinching an already narrow path to federal legalization. A growing number of Republican senators represent states that have legalized recreational or medical can

Mexico, that country just south of the United States ex president trump essentially called a third world shithole, just passed recreational cannabis in the lower house. It now moves to the Senate where passage is anticipated. Good news for the Mexican people and the Mexican economy.  On to the article. BBC - Mexico's lower house has approved a bill that would legalise the recreational use of cannabis. It will now go to the Senate for a final vote, which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's party is confident will pass. This would make Mexico one of the world's largest regulated markets for cannabis. Mexico has struggled with a bloody war against powerful drug cartels, with violence killing thousands yearly. Lawmakers voted in favour of the bill by 316 votes to 129. It had  already been approved in the Senate  in November but another vote is needed following some alterations by the lower house. The legislation would let users with a permit carry up to 28g and grow as m

The days of the ridiculous peeing in a cup so businesses could discipline (and or fire) employers for cannabis use may be coming to an end. We all hope!  With Amazon now supporting cannabis legalization for recreational purposes at both the state and federal level more archaic thinking and punitive dominoes will  fall. On to the article. Cannabis testing was mandatory for workers in multiple firms, including Amazon, and applicants had to pass drug tests to get a job or continue it. The trend of marijuana legalization and decriminalization is spreading quickly and is changing this norm.  Moreover, the number of states that have legalized pot is increasing. It impacts the entire community and increases the demand for designing a regulatory system, a monitoring system. Passing the cannabis legalization and decriminalization regulations means it's time to make some other changes such as alteration of employee hiring criteria, alteration of testing protocols, and many others.  Amazon Ch
